I figured that's what you meant , i've tried the logging out whilst running the live session but i've not had much luck , the first time i logged out i was informed you are logged on as ''live session user'' so when the login box came up demanding a password i put live session user , it then said invalid and i was stuck so i rebooted , loaded again but from then on when i log out the screen goes blank and that's the end of that , i've tried suspending the session and logging out a few times but it always ends with a black screen with no visible way to get back in so i reboot .

Do you think it might be better to just properly install it and work from there ?

Derek.

The name is just "live"; then when it asks for a password, press enter for a blank password. But I'd just install: you should find the CPU usage drops once things are running properly.

Thanks David , i wasn't getting anywhere using the live dvd so i took your advice and installed it , i now see the selection box you mentioned and have selected zorin without the effects , i have literally just finished the installation so i've lots to do but your prediction of a dramatic drop in cpu use was entirely correct i'm relieved to say and i'm looking forward to exploring the system .
As i had multiple systems on the machine i was coerced to tick LVC whilst setting up , i have no idea if i did the right thing but the computer seems happy with it , anyhow thanks for your help , i shall update when i've messed around with it some more ,

Derek.
