Burn Suse 9.0
 

Hello as you can see this is my first post in this forum,
any way I have downloaded the entire Suse 9.0 ftp dir. it is 7.9 gigs. Now I would like to know how to burn it onto a couple DVD disks, how is my problem, I need a filestructer for both DVD's. Can any one help me? This will be greatly apreciated! :-)

best thing to do is burn the boot.iso image which is pretty small and grabbing an ftp from the mirror list on there site and ftping to that for the install (Im assuming first post = pretty new to GNU/Linux in general).

If you want SuSE on a CD I think you have to buy it. SuSE's READMEs repeatedly say 'It is not possible to generate installation CDs from a complete download."

uniQ is correct. However you can (like you have already done) download the entire tree and nfs/smb/ftp, etc. mount it, making it appear to the boot.iso CD as just another mirror (but faster because it's local - so this may be an effective method if you're doing a mass install).

Otherwise, you have to purcahse Suse 9 as the installer (which Suse has written (yast) has some proprietary licensing caluses of some sort which forbid it to be reproduced (yet you can, just not in a certain form, im guessing ISO).

If you have downloaded the whole Suse9 tree then you have the boot.iso in there somewhere. Burn it and boot it and follow the directions found on suse.com (ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/current/README.FTP)

at the first line, type in the full ftp addr + dir path to the 9.0/ dir. then when it askes again for the path... (usually /pub/suse...etc.) type it in but WITHOUT the / in front of pub. This is a problem they have not noted on there install guide.

Additionally, you may have to load the proper NIC driver for the setup to begin. Since I've always had a gentoo CD laying around I poped that in and did a lsmod to get the driver module and matched it in the listing on the Suse9 CD.

Even though this is my first post here. I am not all that new the Linux. I have worked with Red Hat before but it is dieing so I am switching another distibution while I can. I also have already installed suse using a harddisk install. It was sucsecsfull. I don't want to keep the Suse install files on my hard drive after all, its only 40 GB. 8 GB is 20% of my hardisk space. I need a file structure for Suse DVD's so I can burn them.
