burn a video-taped sitting to a DVD needing almost 7GB of space

I was finally able to upload a video of my uncle speaking about his time on Iwo Jima. The problem is that it uses almost 7 GB of space. When I try to burn a DVD, there is not enough room. I don't know how to "split" it. Is there such a thing as a 7GB DVD? I have looked and only computers pop up when I google it. If not, what can I do?

Yes, you can put 7GB on a DVD. You need a blank dual-layer medium and a double-layer DVD-burner (almost all newer burners a double-layer burners).
You can also try to recode the video with lower resolution or lower quality settings to fit it on a single-layer medium, or you use a video-editing software like kdenlive to split the video in two parts.

Hello! Welcome to LQ.

Not many of those fella's left.

Unless you make it into two parts it can't be split as such like a common data file.

Might boot to avlinux http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=avlinux

Seems to have a lot of tools in live cd unless you want to use something in own setup.

i am guessing it is in some kind of "raw" or uncompressed format

a 7 gig file could be anything ??????????? compressed or UNCOMPRESSED ????

it might be a wmv ( mpg1 or 2 or 3 or ..... ) container
or ? who knows what

compress it
