building xine

I have Mandrake 10 and xine with totem on kde. I would like to install a better version of xine because I can't do much with this one. It won't play dvds, vcds, and some audio cds. My question is how exactly do I do this? I have searched on the internet and haven't found anything that helps. I know I need xine-lib and xine-ui right? I need simple instructions because I have absolutely know idea what I'm doing.
Thanks

it's not exactly a problem with xine. You need win32 codecs and libdvdcss. You can download them from the xine nightly builds page.

Another good thing to do since you are using Mandrake is to use "urpmi", Mandrake's package management tool. The instructions to setup urpmi are available at easyurpmi. Make sure you select the PLF repository coz it contains a lot of packages that are not available on the default Mandrake installation due to patents or licensing issues. Using urpmi will give you access to a large amount of Mandrake packages and they can be easily installed by running "urpmi packagename" in a console as root or using the software module (RPMDrake) in the Mandrake Control Center.

Thanks for the help. I followed that link and installed the dvd plugins and now it works fine. I even added the win32 plugins so I can view .wmv videos.
