Bug ?
I am using a Fedora 10 distribution. Mainly the GNOME Desktop.
kernel - 2.6.27.19-170.2.35.fc10.i686 Some of the applications (KATE , Skype ... ) just won't start. I start them from the console.. but nothing happens. If I start them with root wrights they work OK. Could you help me please ? How can I fix this problem ? |
did you install them as root?

Do you have KDE (especially kdelibs) installed?
Even if you run Gnome as your main desktop, you still need KDE to run KDE-based applications. Kate is typically a KDE-based tool, and Skype is built using QT, which is the same core library set that KDE is built upon. Linux Archive |
I think I have them, in fact they were even working fine. I have also a KDE Desktop (you can't get KATE in GNOME with Fedora 10 another way). And about the root installation... no I haven't installed them under root.

find the executables and check the permissions.
To run Kate my system (PCLOS/KDE), I had to first start "dcopserver" (whatever that is) |
