BROTHER DCP7030 does not work with UBUNTU 11.04
hi,
I am a complete beginner and have very little knowledge of LINUX. I recently installed LINUX 11.04 in an old computer computer to get acquainted with linux. The experience has been so far good, it has given a new life to the old computer but I just cannot manage to make my printer BROTHER dcp7030 work. Can some one give me step by step instructions including what to type in the command line. Thank you regards vadsca |
Download the drivers from here -->http://welcome.solutions.brother.com....html#DCP-7030
There are instructions on how to install the drivers, follow Brothers instructions. If you have problems, copy and paste any errors here; or post any how to questions you may have. You need cups installed. Its in synaptics if it is not already installed. To find out, open your web browser, and enter http://localhost:631 and press enter. If you get a display of cups, you have cups. You will need it to control your printer, print jobs etc. |
still not working
Thanks for the suggestion,
I finally got some time in the weekend, I downloaded the driver but not the cups. After installing, I see an icon saying that it is connected to the printer but it does not print. I would highly appreciate if someone could give me also the commands to type in the terminal for making DCP BRrother 7030 work with UBUNTU 11.04. thanks vadsca |
Please enter this into the location bar on your web browser, and report what happens.

successful with printer DCP7030
hello,
this was indeed miraculous, the printer works. -->http://localhost:631 Do you have any suggestion for the scanner too? DCP7030 scanner. Thanks again vadsca |
I realise you have just got it working but are you aware that Ubuntu 11.04 is about to reach end-of-life? This means it will not recieve security or other updates after October this year. May I suggest you get a newer version of Ubuntu, or if the new Unity interface isn't to your liking then you may try the latest Debian or Mint.

Brother scanner driver

What should I type in the command box? Thanks Vadsca |
You will find the scanner driver here -->http://welcome.solutions.brother.com...nload_scn.html
There are install instructions for both 32 bit and 64 bit systems. Sane should be in the repos, if it is not installed. You need it also. I would suggest you install x-sane also. x-sane is a 'front end' ( the gui tool to run the scanner ). |
scanner
hi,
I downloaded the scanner from this site, -->http://welcome.solutions.brother.com...nload_scn.html I installed it but still it does not work. Do I have to a particular software for scanner like XSANE, is this software part of UBUNTU 11.04? Thanks VADSCA |
You need both sane and xsane. They will be in the repos for Ubuntu. See this link for information on sane. -->http://www.sane-project.org/ Xsane is a 'front end program. It provides a gui interface for your use of the scanner. There are other programs you can use though.
You should have sane installed before you installed the driver. Installing sane after the fact, odds are you still will not find the scanner. There are pre-req's listed on the Brother site, do not ignore them. udev rules, need editing, your user needs to belong to the 'scanner' group etc. |
