broadband over pppoe setup help

Hi,

I want to setup broadband connection on my linux box and following is the situation.

1) NIC 1 (eth0) - connected to our network
2) NIC 2 (eth1) - connected to ADSL modem
3) Connection type is - pppoe
4) static ip is provide upon connection

When i was trying to setup using pppoe-setup software where i have answered all the questions, but never get connected on bootup. Also during the setup i never get "Do you want to start this connection at boot time?" question. Few days back when i tried i got this question, but somehow i am confused why it is not asking now.

And also i am what should be the status of eth1 while setting up i.e., eth1 should be inactive. Because when it is active it obtains private network IP from DHCP and i am confused to run pppoe-setup.

Please help if anyone has a solution.

regards,

T. Saravana

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

Now i found the solution to connect on boot. But users are able to use Internet for few seconds and afterwards an error 'Page connot be displayed' appears.

As informed earlier i have two NICs, one connected to our network and another one connected to ADSL router.

I have configure squid proxy server and dansguardian for Internet connection to users.

I have only confusion about the DNS setup. In this regard, I want to resolve some names of few private IPs and for Internet access automatically should go through ISP's DNS address.

I am using FC8.
