Brightness and contrast settings
 

I am running Fedora 2 on a Dell Inspiron 4100 laptop with nVidiaGeforce2 Go graphics card. I have installed the latest nVidia driver and all seems to be working, except the screen is way too bright and the contrast way too high. Much to my surprise the nVidia sriver does not have any gamma, brigness, or contrast corrections (as it does on my windows partition). I have tried to add gamma values in xirg.conf, but setting it too low distorts the colors and smears out small fonts.

So my question is; is there a way to set the brightness and contrast somehow, in addition to through the bios (still too bright) or through the function keys (even still too bright)...

try xgamma

it adjust gamma (obviously) but it might help. That's what I use to adjust my brightness and it works well.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unforutnately xgamma adjusts the gamma and not the brightness or contrast. On windows the nvidia driver provides independent controls for each, and my tft screen in very bright, so I need all three controls.

Maybe nvidia has special options for its driver that'll go into XFree/XOrg's config files. I'm not sure if nvidia has it, but I know ATI does, so maybe nvidia will too.

Well, I found out by asking in the nvidia-linux user forum that all you have to do is type nvidia-settings in a terminal window. My problem now is getting my preferred settings to load on every boot.
