Bootup freezes- RH9...what do i do?

We have RH9. All was working well.

Now, when we startup (dual boot GRUB with windows XP) the GRUB screen displays OK, we chose linux and the screen with all of the system checks comes up. (I think thats the bootlog screen) Then the screen changes to Redhat Shrike.....boot (or something like that....either way it is the screen that always has displayed at that point) Then the screen goes black. At that point I would expect to see the redhat login screen where I type the user name etc....but instead we see a black screen.

How do i fix this?
Thank You

If you're booting into graphical mode, it sounds like something might be hosed with your X configuration. To fix that switch into a terminal window (CTRL+ALT+F1 should work), then you can switch to runlevel 3 with init 3, and then figure out what's wrong with your X configuration (check your log), fix it, and go back to runlevel 5 (or type startx to start X from runlevel 3).
