Bootup choice screen removal?
 

After a failed installation of Mandrake Linux 10.1 community (PCW cover disc) which I had attempted to install to my 2nd HD, I have now managed to re-format & partition the drive back to ntfs format.
Upon boot up of the computer, I am faced with a Mandrake Boot-up choice screen offering Linux, Windows or Failsafe. How do I remove the choice screen to allow Windows to load as default?
I have tried disabling the os choice option from within xp to no avail.
my boot.ini reads

[boot loader]
timeout=0

I am not too technical! & know nothing about Linux Sorry!

To remove the bootloader from the Master Boot Record (MBR) boot up your windows CD and select recovery mode. Then run the fixmbr utility.

I am surprised that your bootloader still works after removing Mandrake and reformatting the partition as NTFS.

Unfortunately you won't be able to sort this out by editing your boot.ini file since this file isn't even looked at yet! The boot.ini file is only looked at once Windows has already started the boot process and has been handed control by the Master Boot Record.

You may well be able to do the above without having to boot from your CD but by booting into Windows as per normal.

If, for whatever reason, you can't do this, you can try alternatives like... boot from a Windows 98 boot floppy and run fdisk /mbr

Thanks for that chaps, system is now back to normal. Things didn't go quite as expected, "recovery console" seemed to want an administrator password which even though I am supposed to be administrator didnt work!
I eventually just typed fixmbr at the prompt & it did its job.
