Bootmanager configuration for 3 operating systems ?
Hi !
could you pleae help me ? I would like to install 3 different operating systems to one harddisk (Windows XP, Fedora and Backtrack) I already installed Windows XP - and Fedora afterwards. Now upon boot I get this GRUB Bootloader where I can choose between Fedora and Windows(other). Could you please tell me how to install the third OS and how to install to bootloader to get a third bootmanager item to choose. thx hans |

Hi
If you are using Fedora, then you are using the GRUB bootloader. After you install the third OS, you will need to make an entry in your GRUB configuration file to give you the choice at boot time of that OS. The files you will need to edit are in /boot/grub/grub.conf. If you will study this file, it will give you an idea of how to add the entry for the new OS. Also, google for a grub tutorial, there are tons of tutorials about grub on the net. Hope this helps Bob |
where the put the boot-loader
Hi !
thanks ! one more question - when installing the backtrack edition it will ask me where the install the bootloader - should I select MBR on /dev/hda or boot-partition ? thx for your help ! Hans |
Up to you really, if you install to mbr it then takes over from previous bootloader and you may have to add xp and fedora manually. If you install to boot partition you will have to add your new os to the existing boot manager installed with fedora.
