Bootmagic and RH 7.1

I am a newbie to Linux and have the following problem.
HDD 0, Primary partion 1 bootmagic installed, Primary partion 2 win2000 installed active, Primary partion 3 Linux swap space.
HDD 1, Primary 1 Linux 7.1 ext2 /boot*, primary 2 linux extended with logical linux /* drive.

The bootmagic menu will allow me to select win2000, but will hang just after selecting the linux menu item which points to HDD1 Prim1 /boot* with
Preparing machine to load "linux" ......

What have I done wrong?
How can I fix it (in laymans terms please)?
Regards,
Stuart.
