Booting with Live CD - but how to edit HD files?

Hi guys,

I've heard Live CDs are great for when the system won't boot properly, etc..etc.. can edit config files and they try to reboot...

but, when the box boots from a live CD, 'df' only shows the mounts put by the CD. I tried to manually mount /dev/hda1, etc, but that didn't seem to work.

I'm sure this is really easy and I'm just missing something obvious.

How would one go about editing a file on their hard drive, like lilo.conf, when booted with a Live CD like Knoppix?

Thanks
Nat

Most of the time, any partitions mounted by Knoppix will show up as a link on the desktop, which will tell you the place they are mounted, or you could type mount and read where the partitions are mounted. Usually, everything is mounted in directory /mnt or /media if removable.
