Unhappy Booting stoppes at "firstboot"...

Everytime i boot, linux (red hat 9) goes into x mode (my nvidia fx 5200 video card isn't supported). When I trie to get back into text mode by pressing crtl+alt+1, it seems booting has stopped at "firstboot".
Can anyone help me?
