I've an assembled PC with intel pentium4 1.7 Ghz pro and intel 845 board. I've already installed winXP and win 98 in it. later i installed Redhat 9 in one of the partitions. I've created /, /boot and swap partitions. I got it correctly insalled. later when i rebooted and chose in Redhat in GRUB(ver .693), then loading proceeds till it says "press I for interactive startup" then it mounts proc and other stuff, it comes till "Configuring kernel parameters" there a green [ok] comes and later it just stops there. kbd responds if i type anythin, it does not do anything else. it keeps waiting there. please help. i've installed RH 9 many times previously but never faced this problem........

Try pressing "I" for interactive startup and step through each step in the initialization process and post back on which step it seems to be having trouble with (you can try just skipping that step and seeing if it works). Post back here when you know exactly what step it is. You can also try appending the word "single" (no quotes) to the kernel command line in grub to try booting to signle user mode. If that works you can try starting services by hand until you find the problem. Also, RH9 is getting quite old now, and you're probably best off with a more modern distro like Fedora Core 4.

i tried to use the option of pressing I. still the system never reaches till that point. it just mounts proc, then initrd, and stops at "configureing kernel parameter" [ok] . also i've tried to enter in run level 1 by using the option in the grub edit options when you press e at the grub screen where it asks for dos or windows, still it stops at same point. it does not take in any inputs. i'm using RH 9 because i want to use Magic and Spice, two vlsi tools that i found working only in RH 9.
