Booting Kernel with simulated root file-system

I am not at all familiar with Linux but I am following instructions to install this software and run it.

I am trying to install ski simulator on mandrake...

http://www.hpl.hp.com/research/linux/ski/download.php

Ski is basically a IA-64 simulator.

My problem is that I am trying to to boot the Linux kernel with Ski, and trying to configure the kernel appropriately and to install a file that contains a (simulated) root file-system.

On the HP website it says that "After downloading the root filesystem, the file needs to be decompressed with gunzip and installed /var/ski-disks/sda. Ski will require write-access to this file in order to boot the Linux kernel. If you can't install sda in /var/ski-disks for some reason, you can place it anywhere you like, say in /my/path/sda and then boot the kernel with:

$ ski bootloader vmlinux simscsi=/my/path/sd
Note: The simscsi argument specifies the simulated disk-prefix (/my/path/sd), not the path of the disk file, so it is important not to specify the trailing "a" character. "

I typed $ ski bootloader vmlinux simscsi=/home/mypath/ski/sd

However this is not working for me..I am using mandrake linux...Any ideas?

Your suggestions are much appreciated
Priyanka
