Booting fedora dvd from lilo

Hello,

I attempted to install slackware 13 on my laptop and was moderately successful. However in the process of attempting to configure it I appear to have messed something up. After reading about the problems I'm having I decided it would probably be easier to remove the current installation and start over.

I am now trying to install fedora from the dvd, but for some reason the computer will not boot the dvd. I have set the bios to boot from the drive first, and have tried burning the dvd twice, but every time the dvd spins up and shortly thereafter the computer loads lilo. Have I simply burned the dvd wrong twice? I used disk manager on mac os x and the disc reads just fine on the mac that burned it, but still no luck booting.

Thanks in advance for your help

LILO on a new distro??

Things to consider. Can the system boot to a dvd? Can it boot to the OS if you selected 64 bit or even 32 bit on older system.

Did you test dvd or did you test iso image with shal or md5? Can you test the dvd booting on some other similar system? Can you test the iso on qemu or other virtual machine? Did you burn the disk to a good quality dvd? Did you burn at the very slowest speed and with no other applications running? Can you try a live cd and use a good quality cd to see if the system will boot to cd?

Maybe your the disk is not burnt properly, as jefro has told try a live cd and see if it boots. When you say it is loading lilo, then it is reading from the MBR of the harddisk. Boot slackware from lilo and check whether it is working? Try changing the boot priority of your system again.

Good Luck.

Hello,
I was able to borrow a friends computer and it turns out that I must have burnt both discs incorrectly because they would not boot on his machine either. I ended up installing windows long enough to download the iso and burn it to a disc, before successfully installing fedora. Thanks and sorry it was such an obvious answer

Make enough mistakes and in no time you are an expert. Ask any expert here how many times they made simple mistakes. Sometimes you just need to get the order of troubleshooting down.
