Booting beyond 1048 cylinders

How best we can boot into linux if we install linux beyond 1048 cylinders ? I dont want to boot by floppy. I want only the harddisk booting which i feel is the fastest.

I have Xp in C: drive and want to install SLED10 on my system . I already have caldera open linux in my system now. right now I have installed linux before 1048 cylinders but want to get away with this problem for better disk managment.

Hasn't been a problem for years. How old is the BIOS on your machine ???.

I have intel810 celeron 1100 procesor with 256MB ram.

Will this machine support booting beyond 1048 cylinder ?

Depends on the BIOS - if the machine is less than 3 years old you should be o.k.
If you get problems, just have a /boot partition with the 1024 cylinder boundary.
