Bootable partitions
 

I will be dual booting vista with slackware. How many bootable partitions are needed? I guessing that only one on windows right? Lilo will be installed in the MBR.

Presuming you are actually meaning the boot flag, the answer with Linux loaders (including lilo) is "none".

The Windoze loader uses (requires) that flag, as do some others, but not the usual Linux loaders. Leave it on the Windoze partition will do no harm, and will help if you ever have to re-install Windoze to the MBR.

With lilo in the MBR it doesn't matter. Windoze can be booted from lilo with or without the flag being present.
