Boot Question
I've got 2 80GB HD's. Is it cool to leave XP on one and install Linux (probably SuSe, since I'm a newbie) onto the other HD? Would any of you recommend a better way of doing things? I've got a P4 3.0Ghz with 1G of RAM. I've heard so many good things about Linux, I can't wait to test it out. However, I don't want XP to trash Linux, or vice-versa. Your help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Sober Guy,
Firstly make sure one of make sure you have one hard drive free, ie no files you want to keep are on it. Put the linux CD in and restart your computer, it will boot into linux and procced to install. You should be fine and it will auto mount you Windows drive so you can read from it. It will not totch the ntfs (windows) disk unless you tell it too. Once linux is installed you can boot between linux and windows when you turn on you computer. GlenX |
Thanks for the info. I've heard (read) much discussions of various boot loaders. Do I need one, and if so, which one would you recommend?

Hi Sober Guy,
LILO & GRUB are the main boot loaders used. I would recommend trying to use lilo (mandrakelinux use's lilo) as GRUB can sometimes have problems boot windows of a different Disk GlanX |
