Hi,
I have installed suse 11 on one of my system. i am facing problem while booting from my active grub. my active grub entry is as below: ###Don't change this comment - YaST2 identifier: Original name: SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 - 2.6.27.11-1 (/dev/sda8)### title SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 - 2.6.27.11-1 (/dev/sda8) kernel (hd0)/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27.11-1-default root=/dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WD3200JS-22PDB0_WD-WCAPD2997677-part8 vga=0x314 resume=/dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WD3200JS-22PDB0_WD-WCAPD2997677-part3 splash=silent crashkernel=256M-:128M@16M showopts initrd (hd0)/boot/initrd-2.6.27.11-1-default in that i am not able to understand roo=/dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WD3200JS-22PDB0_WD-WCAPD2997677-part8 part. can any one explain above line what it indicate. I tried to replace that line with /dev/sda8 but i am facing problem "can nor mount selected partition" can anyone tell me how to solve above issue Thanks |
There are several ways of identifying the boot partition and openSUSE chooses to use ids, which I also find difficult to comprehend.
Still, I suspect that we need to address the problem you are having, not diagnose whether the id format is correct. (If the openSUSE installer put it there, I bet it is fine.) Therefore, what is your actual problem (for example, SUSE does not boot)? |
my problem is "i am not able to boot in suse 11 "
but i got solution ... now i am able to boot in sles11 .. it is working fine. solution is change menu.lst file as below rootnoverify (hd0,7) chainloader +1 |
Great. I am glad that you got it working. Also, thanks for reporting back, since someone else may have the same problem and find your post.
