You may have fallen into a classic trap. Did you "burn from iso", or just put the .iso file on the CD? The CD should have MANY files and folders on it---if it is just one file (the .iso), then you need to start over.
Any burning SW will have an option to create a CD an .iso file. In many Linux distro, you just right-click on an .iso file and select "burn to CD".

If it boots from other CDs, then you may have gotten a bad download--or a bad burn. Did you check the MD5 sum on the download?

I really hope you got that backwards...otherwise you've got an ancient version of DSL.
The latest version is 3.0.1 and can be downloaded from http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/download.html

If you have an F12 button press just before boot. A menu appears choose the CD.
If that doesn't work then if you have and OS installed on the Hard drive check out your CD. there should be many icons not just one folder.
Pixellany mentioned to download the MD5 sum file from the DSL site and check your download with it. That a good idea. Also attempt a Burn at a very slow speed like 2X.
hope this helps

Some computers just won't boot linux from a cd without a little help. I've go one that I had to create a boot floppy (google it). and then boot to that then it will give you the option of booting to the cd.
