Boot problem

Hello everybody!
Since i'm posting in the newbie forum you can guess i'm a newbie ;-)
well, to my problem: i have this wonderful & nice suse 8.0 installed on my second computer. the installtion ran fine, everything went great, until i first wanted to reboot.
well, it doesn't boot at all! it just display a lot of "07" on the screen and then stops.
i had win2k installed before and i think somethings wrong with the boot record. because i reinstalled win2k, the same boot error. then i formatted with format c: /mbr (which restores the boot record) and ... voila. windows runs fine again.... well... I WANT LINUX!
who can help me?
thanks a lot in advance :-)

Hi,

If you have a boot disk use it to have access to your system, then try to clean your mbr before install your boot manager:

# dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/HDX bs=512 count=1

and then install the boot manager:

# /sbin/lilo

or:

# /usr/sbin/grub <<EOF
install (hd0,X)/boot/grub/stage1 (hd0) (hd0,X)/boot/grub/stage2 0x8000 (hd0,X)/boot/grub/menu.lst
quit
EOF

Hope that helps ...
