boot menu
I have installed PCLinuxOS to a new partition on my HDD, but it doesnt seem to be showing up in my boot menu, the only OSes that show is Windows 2000/Windows Longhorn 4074 / Windows Longhorn 5048, and no Linux. I can get to Boot.ini from win 2000, what do I have to add to get a listing on there for PCLinuxOS?

I don't know about PCLinuxOS, but most OS' require a bootloader installed (lilo or grub, normally..) You need to say yes to install either of these before you can load your linux partition, cause ofcourse the M$ bootloader don't support Linux partitions ;)
Try reinstalling PCLinuxOS and keep an eye out for information about the bootloader. It needs to be installed in the MBR. Good luck! |
yea I did, but it doesnt show up. I have two boot menu's currently, the first one is the stupid one Longhorn 5048 installs and the other one is the standard m$ one. could this be causing the trouble??

you cant use the m$ boot loader to boot linux, you have to install grub or lilo, which normally the install disk asks you about. try booting from the install disc and checking if theres a "reinstall bootloader" or similar option.
EDIT: ok quick lookup of PCLinuxOS reveals that it is a livecd, which would explain why it didint ask about the boot loader, except that in the 'installation" section they say that it does ask you. looks like you gotta reinstall and read everything carefully EDIT2: ok further reading says that lilo might have a fit if you already have a boot loader installed. so you gotta boot up with a dos boot disk and go Code:
fdisk /mbr EDIT3: ok my feeble brain finally realised that this was probably what you were asking about in the first place. sorry. |
got it going. Re-formatted the partiton and re-installed it with the bootloader. work perfectly now.
