Boot from USB

I just purchased a Shuttle K45 with Fedora 8 Preloaded. This computer does not have a dvd drive, so i purchased an external drive connecting through USB. I want to be able to boot from USB right from the start, but I have no idea how to use Linux. I am also trying to install Windows XP by doing this. How can i make Fedora boot from USB? or my computer in any case

Installing and booting most Linux distributions from an external usb drive should not be a problem. Since you have Fedora already on your computer, do you plan to use another version of Linux? That would be your first decision, then the size of your external drive, number and size of partitions, whether you want to use windows or Linux bootloader and which drive you want to boot first. You should familiarize yourself with Linux/Grub drive terminology (should be easy to do) before installing anything.

What is a Shuttle K45?

Its a Taiwanese brand small form factor.

OOps i meant to say i purchased an external Dvd drive so that i can install XP onto the PC.

to make my question straightforward, i want to delete the preloaded fedora and install xp. but since the computer does not have a optical drive, i can only try to boot Windows XP from a usb external dvd drive. what are the commands to boot from usb.

If you have a windows boot disk with fdisk on it, you should be able to use that to delete partitions. Maybe you can do it through your xp installation disk. DVD's are optical drives. Do you have an external hard drive you want to connect via usb? The methods/commands to install or boot windows from usb would be different than Linux. Might try a windows forum or just go to microsoft site.
