I have a notebook and I have a pcmcia card which has a DVD-CD_ROM connected to it through
a USB 2.0 socket. The labtop's CD-ROM is screwed-up so I cannot use it anymore hence the need for the external DVD-CD-ROM.
Now I would like to use this external DVD-CD-ROM for booting instead of the internal CD_ROM.
Also my BIOS doesn't support booting from USB drives.
Is it possible to use GRUB to boot from there?
I have tried smart boot manager and it doesn't work as it doesn't recognize the drive.
Any experts in here who can help?

As far as my knowledge goes you nead a boot able device to boot from .
If you,re BIOS does not support booting from a USB drive nothing can change it
Af course if you have a O.S on a DVD you can put GRub on a internal drive with is boot able to boot the DVD
