boot from 2 different hdd's

okay here goes...
have a sata drive which has windows xp on it,an ide disk with red hat.
linux does not see sata till i use modprobe and load the scsi driver.i dont want to compile the kernel with the drivers....
i want the comp to ask me from which physical drive it should boot from..
what i do is manually change it from bios everytime...
any utility?it has to be a windows/bios utility cos windows sees both drives, linux doesnt
thanks

grub or lilo should be able to do this ok. i've not used sata at all, but you should be able to make it chainload to hd2,0, which would be (afaik) the primary sata partition. Remember that while lilo and grub are linux boot loaders, they don't actually have anythign to do with your linux installation, so don't care how your kernel is configured.

check this thread, should give you some pointers. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/214677
