boot floppy

I cannot make a working boot floppy in either Mandy or Libranet. I have tried wizard in both Libranet and Mandy to no avail. I have also tried "mkbootdisk" using the appropriate kernal version and still...no go. It creates a boot disk, the problem is that the boot disk does not work. I have no problem writing to or reading from floppy. Have gone through an easy dozen floppies trying to find one that works. Cmmos is set to boot from floppy. Have researched posts, and have not found one which touches directly on this. Floppy drive and cables seem to be ok.

These are floppies created with boot message. What other info do I need to make available? TIA

Press <return> (or wait 10 seconds) to boot your Mandrake Linux system from
/dev/hdb1. You may override the default linux kernel parameters by typing
"linux <params>", followed by <return> if you like.

I guess that Linux just doesn't like my floppy drive. Made a bootable CD and that worked.

However, bootable CD worked for Libranet, but not Mandrake9.1. Do I need additional files to make bootable boot floppy?

kind a same problem - other situation.

I can make boot floppy but it will load and reboot the system.
I was wondering what files i can remove, or never can remove.

Sys: Intergraph Td-30 - dual Pentium I 133
Thats why i want to run Linux (or OS/2W3)

no freak - no geek - no heartbeat - just a damn machine

I have an old 90mhz pentium I want to run as a firewall, but I too don't know how to boot with these stupid floppies.

I just solved my problem here.... I made a win98 boot disk that has the CDrom drivers. I then inserted the RH install and went to dosutils/autorun...

solarcell 09-24-2003 03:00 PM

Well, that is what i did with RedHad 5 - because of the Autoboot facility - but higher vers (7.1, 7.2 ) do not have such.
And for other OS with auto-bootcd - the game is over or rather complex, copying source to the Hd etc..
