boot failure - unexpected inconsistency

My box is scientific linux 6.3 x64, and I got boot failure - unexpected inconsistency as shown at attached picture.


Please let me know how to solve this problem.

Did you run fsck as the error message suggested? Since the computer won't boot, you will likely need to do this from a Live CD or using the rescue boot from your installation CD, if it offers that option (I think it does).

This thread from the Ubuntu forums will introduce you to the concepts. It's been a while since I played around with Scientific Linux, but, as I recall, it does not disable the root account as Ubuntu does, so the sudo stuff should be irrelevant--just do it as root.

I tried "fsck -fy /dev/vg1" and vg2. But SL doesn't boot.

So I tried to boot single mode, then I got this screen.
