I've just installed
SimplyMEPIS3.4 as my first real live Linux distro,
and can get it to run. Can't download updates or anything else because my broadband isn't configured yet, BUT...
On booting, I get these error messages before it hangs:
grep: etc/modules: bad file descriptor (I've looked in etc/modules (hidden), which should contain modules to load at boot time, but it just contains commented lines of what it should contain...) No modules listed.
OR
<1> Fixing recursive fault but reboot is needed!
Columns of hex also sometimes appear at various stages.
If I leave it, it may go further in the boot sequence, or I may have to hard boot again. Sometimes I can resolve it by selecting
video mode 0 as opposed to
press spacebar to continue or wait 30 seconds...
At least with a bit of effort I can get in and learn...
There are other issues such as duplicated help files, but I'll post another thread on that later.
Couldn't find any other threads on the above. Any ideas, guys?
Cheers
