Boot Disk Floppy NO SPACE

Tried to make boot disk with Mandrake 9.2 during installation. Message back was fd0 was out of space! WAS A BLANK DISK BRAND NEW.
SMP File stats for /boot directory said kernel name is
vmlinuz-2.4.22-1115nptlsmp size =1350291 &
system.map-2.4.22-1115nptlsmp =612013 &
config-2.4.22-1115nptlsmp=49703 &
initrd-2.4.22-1115nptlsmp=249171

Non-SMP file stats
vmlinuz-2.4.22-1115nptl =1252277
system.map-2.4.22-1115nptl=582775
config-2.4.22-1115nptl=49612
initrd-2.4.22-1115npt=244008

DUAL BOOT WINXP on Cprimary part & D: (logical part;hda5) /boot(hda6)
/ (hda7) home swap(hda8)
Tried booting from GBUB using smp kernel and went black screen & nothing had to RESET to get back to grub screen, tried non smp same thing reset tried windows & HUNG trying to load could't get to safe mode. Power off & restarted. Then grub hosed the MBR and couldn't boot windows or Linux. Ran FIXMBR to get windows going for family but could NOT recover Linux. Might try re-installing but make CD_ROM for boot disk. ANY SUGGESTIONS
P4 2.8C(HT) looks like 2 CPU to WINDOWS XP PRO.

Config is : ABIT IC7-G, Intel 2.8C HT, 1024MB DDR, 80GB WDD, Plextor DVD/CD Burner PX708A mon.,kb,mouse,printer. Nothing special. No SATA drives: SATA controller disabled IEEE1394 device. Both disabled in BIOS
