so the book i posted should work sufficently with fedora 7 for the PS3 than ?

basically, the redhat 3 book should still be usefull for working with the command line, but on the otherhand i would chose a fairly modern distro (see http://distrowatch.com/ for some ideas)
and just play with it until you get a good idea how to operate it graphically (not that hard though there are some easier than fedora (eg ubuntu)) then you should be able to start simple CLI commands

after all you would not learn vista by first learning DOS!

What is the architecture of the PS3? Doesn't it use the cell processor? You will need to download and install a distro that is meant for the PS3 if that is the case. Look in the distro watch site. I have installed SuSE Linux on a PPC Mac computer.
Sony may even have a Linux distro available.

it is a pentium celeron with 512 MB ram and a 4GB hdd
if this is your system then fedora will not even install with only a 4 gig drive .
look into "puppy Linux" http://www.puppylinux.org/
or "damn small Linux" http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/
also if you try to put "fedora 9" on an old machine , it will not work/run
"fedora 8 " will still work on a computer that is 7 to 8 years old
and DSL ( see above) is great for older/ low resource machines .
----------
as to a ps3 fedora 8 and 9 can be and is ported to is

all i know is that sony is completly PPC related all the distros that run on PS3 are PPC and so on and so forth even fedora and YDL (YDL is freely distributed for PPC/PS3 currently as i have it installed)

as far as i know the PS3 only supports PPC LINUX installs / distro's along side a PS3 boot loader to load to "otheros" as the sony would phrase it.
