book for red hat certification(RHCSA, RHCE)

Hi everybody,

Can anybody suggest me which text book I'd go with for red hat certification RHCSA and RHCE. Kindly mention the author name that's having whole syllabus of RHCSA and RHCE.

You must register for the RHCE & RHCSA exam. You'll get the course materials too. That may help you a lot.
Even you must install a redhat based OS on your system like CentOS you can use, that will help you a lot.
When you'll register for the course, you'll get the OS DVD along with that.
Good Luck!

Hi basusimply,

Let me just suggest that I've discussed my RHCSA/RHCE book in detail in the certification section of this board, ref http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...tification-46/ -- and one link to it is here http://www.amazon.com/RHCSA-Linux-Ce...dp/0071765654/

I'm going to add that having used Mr. Jang's book (though more with the idea of self-study than taking the exam), it is an excellent book. It seems to be considered the standard study book for the RH exams--that is, if one googles you'll find more recommendations for it than for any other book.

DISCLAIMER--haven't taken the exam, so can't really confirm that it lives up to its reputation, but it really does seem to be one of the best books around for studying--not only for the exam, but to make sure you have adequate RH knowledge.

The fact that its author is sometimes present on these forums is also a plus.

Well that's a pleasant surprise. Assuming that I can reasonaby "get around in" the command line, but am not comfortable with some of the areas I know are on the exam, for example, editing fstab (or whatever), will the course materials generally contain ALL the information I need to study (assuming I have a CentOS box I can use)?

And do you just mean registering for the test? Not signing up for some study course but just signing up for the test (which is currently $400 on the redhat site)?

Otherwise, having those study materials and the book mentioned here, plus a few years of command line experience (but no guru), do Ihave the basics?

Thanks,
Tony

Hi Tony,

At least from anecdotal reports, what you get varies by country -- last I checked no course materials were included in the EX200/EX300 (RHCSA/RHCE exam only) courses in the US. Check with Red Hat if you want the latest info.

Doh! Of course...

Thanks, I'll check with them.

Yes the course material will cover everything you need to study. Rest you need to explore on your own.

No, not just registering but course material also.

No, not only basics but will cover advanced part also.
