blk_update_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector xxxxxx
I frequently get this error when attempting to back up the hard drive of my desktop PC using Clonezilla Live 2.4.2-32:
Code:
blk_update_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector xxxxxx This evening, after five attempts, Clonezilla finally loaded properly. Never had this problem in the distant past. It all started approx. two months ago. Isn't sr0 my DVD drive? Is it going bad? I don't think that I have a problem with Clonezilla's .iso file as the MD5 checksum was ok. Please not that I am not much of an expert with hardware or Linux, so I might need extra hand-holding. |
Are you backing up to DVD-RW? If so then beware of the fact that DVD-RW discs deteriorate with repeated writes. Eventually they become unusable.
Whether you are using DVD-RW or DVD-R you should try to restore something from a DVD backup you created which had write errors. See if your backups are actually usable. -------------------- Steve Stites |

/dev/sr0 is your DVD drive... Either the DVD is failing or your unit is... Just try writing the clonezilla image to another DVD and see if you have any more problems..
LE: Or better yet, use a usb flash drive |

The last time I used Clonezilla three years ago it went like a dream. This time I got the errors mentioned above. It was just a bad CD. I burnt Clonezilla to a disc recordable erasable 'BD-RE) rebooted, and Clonezilla cloned my disk in less than 30 minutes. I wasted about 4 hours thinking that my hard disk was duff. |
