I've just followed the prompt to install the Ati drivers showed as additional drivers. I activated these but now my monitor does not work. I'm running the latest version of Ubuntu (11.04) and I've got a Radeon HD5430. I could log in on a black screen. I had to reboot after this and go in to safe mode with basic video drivers to get a working screen and it wouldn't load Unity. How can I fix this or get back to where I was without having to reinstall Ubuntu?
Catalyst™ Proprietary Display Driver for ATI Radeon HD 5430
Automated installer and Display Drivers for X.Org 6.7, 6.8, 6.9, 7.0, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4, 7.5, or 7.6
Make sure you have a correct version of xserver-xorg installed. You could also try xorg's radeon or radeonhd drivers (I use radeon on my HD4350 and it works fine including direct rendering).
ciao,
jdk
Once downloaded run the shell script, you can install this in CLI mode as well.Make sure that you have the linux-headers for your kernel
which are required while installing the drivers
ex:
Code:
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-2.6.32-5-amd64
,
once installed please check the logfile under
Code:
/usr/share/ati/fglrx-install.log
to see if the process completed successfully or not.
when installing the proprietary ATI-driver it is necessary to run the command
Code:
aticonfig --initial
afterwards. I'm not sure if the installer of your distributions does this by default. But you can check this because the aticonfig command creates a xorg.conf and will backup the old one.
