Exclamation Black Screen when waking from a sleep Ubuntu 13.04


I have to restart my computer just to get back to what i was doing. the screen just stays black, but the computer is on. its an HP by the way. im still a linux newb and would like to learn more about this. is it a bug? how do i fix it? thanks in advance

You may have some problem with ACPI. Your computer may have entered suspend to ram (S3) where the processor stops,
devices are powered down, but the RAM is still powered. Normally, your computer should return to its normal state
(S5) when you press the power button. However, this is done by the BIOS, and sometimes power is not restored successfully to the screen. There are various boot options acpi_sleep=s3_mode or acpi_sleep=s3_bios that can alter
what the BIOS does to restore the system to the normal state. Another way to restore the screen is by using vbetool
to reinitialize the video hardware. You can look at the following list of computers to see if your laptop is there. You can also see the Suspend to RAM documentation.
Another possibility is that your X server has crashed. Look for a /var/log/Xorg.0.log file, and examine also
/var/log/syslog.
