Black screen appears after resume

Iam using Ubuntu 9.10,
working fine but when i keep the system ideal for sometime black screen appears i can't able to use it and it is not responding any way so iam restarting the system.
please tell me how to solve this problem step by step

According to Wikipedia 9.10 was only supported to 2011-04-30. It is 2 years old now. You would be better to do a new, clean install.

black screen appears

i dont have supported hardware to install 10.04
I have mercury P1945GZD motherboard
it is not supporting to ubuntu 10.04 it hanging after login to ubuntu 10.04.
