Bind DNS update procedure in linux

Hi ,

I have dns server with bind version mentioned below:

[root@as1 ~]# rpm -qa |grep bind
bind-libs-9.3.6-16.P1.el5
bind-9.3.6-16.P1.el5
ypbind-1.19-12.el5_6.1
bind-utils-9.3.6-16.P1.el5
[root@as1 ~]#

And i want to update it due to some bugs has been reported in the PCI compliance scanning report in this version of bind.

SO can you please let me know the what is the impact of updating the bind and steps to update it..

Secondly can i do this online or i need to bring the dns services down.

Thanks !!!!!! in advance

just keep your system up to date with yum - "yum update bind" and it'll take care of it.

You *MUST* be aware of the rhel backporting policy though - https://access.redhat.com/security/updates/backporting/ you may well be fully secure already.

A restart of named would be a reasonable thing to want to do after the update yes, as well as backing up named.conf and zone files just in case.
