Bind 9.3.2

Hi,

I am trying to install bind for the first time and finding it difficult in doing so..i get the following error when i try to run ./configure

checking build system type... mkdir: cannot create directory `/tmpdir/cg31767-23902': No such file or directory
mkdir: cannot create directory `/tmpdir/cg-31767': No such file or directory
config.guess: cannot create a temporary directory in /tmpdir
configure: error: cannot guess build type; you must specify one

I would also like to know is there any document online which would help in installing and configuring bind.

Thanks,
Santhosh

Hi,

Did you extract the source into a directory where you have write permission?

I don't know if my previous post made it (I got logged out) so here it is again.

Is there any reason why you're not compiling this as a normal user in your home directory?

I must admit I have no experience with compiling bind. I have compiled my share of programs though, and none have required root to compile.

A simple yahoo search finds:

http://www.isc.org/index.pl?/sw/bind...?release=9.4.0

and

http://www.linux-sxs.org/internet_serving/bind9.html

Hope this helps, Good luck,
Sam
