Bet U cant help me with This One

I posted the same question before but nobody answered. I figure Ill try refrasing. I really need some help from you wizkids.
I am going crazy trying to pinpoint anything with my mouse. Its a optical mouse from dexxa. My distribution doeasnt support optical mouse. I mean it works but the pointer moves franticly.
Another thing is my scren resolution. I cant get it above 800x600. Im using a GeForce 2 Video Adapter. Please oh please help me out. Thanx.

Your distro almost certainly does support your mouse, but it's obviously not being given the correct parameters to work with! As for the GF2, it works, I know it works, it works well! You need to use the nv driver to get it up and running, and then if you want, you can make your own driver from the nvidia download site.

Boot to a text prompt, run drakconf from the command line and change the video settings in that. It's all menu driven, so you shouldn't have too many problems with it...you won't need to edit files (yet).

What have you tried to do so far in getting the mouse to work? I am sure we can get it working once the problem is established. Likewise your screen resolution. What have you tried so far, etc...Anything specific will help. Errors, yadda yadda..

well i have not tried anything really as i am completly new to linux. as for my mouse all i did was select one from the menu that poped up on inslalation. i chose a generic ps2 mouse with support for the weel. it comes with a few specific drivers but none for mine (witch is DEXXA). and the screen...well i have no idea how should i go about installing the driver. if anybody would be nice enough to explain it to me (just imagine im yo granma)

ok the nVidia site has the drivers right. ok now compiling the driver myself is way over my head so i have to choose one from the list. now all i know about my distro is that it is mandrake 8.2 but there is like 10 different ones that i have to choose from (am i making sense :) ) how can i get the nessesery info.

You need to choose the Mandrake package that fits your system - the 'up' packages are for single processor systems.

You'd be better off using the 'src' packages (source packages) in my experience - other people may disagree.

After you've downloaded them, read the README on the website and follow the instructions for installing from source - it's easier than you think, provided you follow the instructions correctly :D .

The mouse problem is probably because the mouse is using the wrong protocol, at least in my experience every time the mouse was messed up (in X) it was using the wrong protocol. Check the protocol in "core pointer" section of /etc/X11/XF86Config and specifying the right protocol (Which i dont know which one is it for you) should fix the mouse.
Hope that helps
