Best way to install Linux Xubuntu on USB stick
 

I've had a previous thread about an error of installing the operating system into a USB drive.

Anyways, I got an ISO of Xubuntu 15.04 and I was wondering what would be the best way to install it onto my 64 gb Sandisk USB Stick and to make it bootable so I can have it alongside with windows 7.

PS, Sorry if it seems clickbaity, I forgot to put the ? at the end of the title.

Depends upon what you want. If you want a "Live CD" of Xubutu, you can use unetbootin, pendrivelinux, or the dd command from any Linux. This will be a "Live CD" read-only systems where you won't be able to make any modifications unless you use persistence.

If you want an actual full install, you install it the same way you would install it to any hard drive.

Thanks! I think I will full install because I want to have some data saved instead of having to redownload everything every time I try linux.

The link below has a pretty detailed tutorial on installing Ubuntu to dual-boot with windows. It doesn't discuss UEFI but if you have windows 7, you probably arent't using UEFI. Might check that first.

I am certainly no expert and because of that fact I have done many installs ;) Today half a dozen while setting a HP530 laptop up for my mother!lol.

I would recommend buying a couple of cheap, small cheap USB keys like 8gb in size. Use Pen Drive Linux if you're on Windows or if on Ubuntu like me use Startup Disk Creator. Have one USB for 32bit systems and one for 64bit systems.

Then, wherever you go, you can breathe life into old laptops. I usually install Kodi + Exodus, FilmOn, Phoenix, ZemTV, VidTime addons all of which are in the Fusion repository. Blows people's minds if they aren't that tech lol. I also install AdBlocker on FireFox, remove the Amazon crap that comes with Ubuntu and install Skype too.

That seems genius! Xubuntu would be my 64bit Choice and Lubuntu would be my 32bit choice.

I install a free virtual machine on host.

Create a virtual client. Use iso image and not create a virtual hard drive.


Boot client to iso image. Attach usb drive to client and install the OS.
