Best way to find what linux distro from partitions\files alone?

:newbie: Going thru my Raspberry Pi SDs via laptop and can't seem to find clues to what distros I am looking at... Any ideas would be appreciated, I'm guessing in /etc? But, no luck yet...

Such a n:ob it was staring right at in each /etc e.g. debian_version and arch-release etc...

To add to that, most modern distros have the file /etc/os-release, which contains information about the distro.

...and man os-release contains information about the /etc/os-release file... :)

Code:

lsb_release -a

One more:
/etc/slackware-version
