Best Linux distro for netbook?
 

I am getting a new net book in several days from HP, with 250 GB hard disk space, 1GB ram, and an atom processor. What is the best kind of Linux setup for this kind of machine in terms of which distro to use? Any recommendations for Linux on a net book that could make it good?

If you are still on a learning curve with linux, I would suggest you install the Ubuntu Remix one. From other posts, people have advised Suse but I have never tested it myself. I did install ubuntu using gnome but I had issues with displaying things properly on my 11" which is normal but wanted to try it....

Ubuntu Netbook remix should be fine. There are a lot of choices though and trying out different flavors is the best way to find a suitable one.
If you are up for running a full distribution with XFCE, Dream Linux is one small and good distro.

I agree Ubuntu or Ubuntu Netbook Remix (they are the same except for the user interface) are both excellent choices for a netbook.

These days, however, you can run just about any distro on a netbook (I'm typing this from Fedora on my Asus eee), so if there is a distro you're already experienced with, I bet you can get it to work on your new netbook. :)

Thanks for that input. I get it that everybody thinks Ubuntu remix is a good option, but I might opt for Debian on this occasion. I think it looks more business like, and my home PC wont be jealous of this. The articles are worth reading definitely for the advice that there are so many, and even they recommend installing fedora, that I thought wasn't at all that good on another computer I installed it on. Any ideas on how to install or run these two so that there are no bugs at all? I am thinking that running them virtually through virtual box is an excellent idea, so I don't loose anything in the end. Perhaps not installing the full distro and scrapping the windows starter an easy option, I can always go further if I like any of them. Does anyone have a major issue with installing the full copy of Ubuntu remix onto the netbook? Can it mess with the wireless connection etc?
