Best Linux Desktop environment for gaming?
 

Hi everyone...So I know that Ubuntu, Debian, and Arch are pretty much the way to go if you want the best gaming support (Steam). However what would be the best DE for gaming, performance wise? I was thinking XFCE but people have been saying KDE and Unity because of something called "unredirect fullscreen windows" and that you can turn off "compositing". People have also stated that XFCE does not have this feature. What are these two things and do they impact FPS in gaming? (Again, what would be your best DE for gaming?)

I've never had a problem using any plain wm.
Some of those game advantages can work backwards if you use it for something else.
I have a "game-box" running debian with xorg+compiz ... (it's made to work with PS3 and Wii controllers mimicking a "real" console interface).

That said, you can use the WM from any desktop without using the full desktop.

So generally they will all perform pretty well? Is there any DE though that is known to have the biggest FPS/performance difference?

It depends on your hardware.

Compositing demands either more CPU or a descent video card.
Any DE will do (why do you even need one for gaming?).

If your hardware isn't that fancy, keep it easy for the CPU.
