Best Distro for Brand New Gaming Computer
Which distro has the best hardware compatibility, and works with the latest hardware? Mainly video card and wireless card. I know of Sabayon, and I like it, but whenever I do an update, I can't get past gdm, and it's happened a few times. I'd prefer an Ubuntu/Debian based distro, but I will try others.

Both Fedora and Ubuntu have large user communities that can help you through any video or wireless difficulties you might have. Video card and wireless issues are more a matter of finding the right drivers for your hardware than picking the right distro. (For example, NVIDIA Linux drivers can be downloaded and installed directly from the NVIDIA website.) If you want to be really up-to-date and have your system highly-configurable, then I'd recommend Gentoo. But only if you have a high level of Linux technical skill. (Which is probably not the case since you are making this post.) |
Try Linux Mint. It looks really nice and has a pretty good site. Here is their inventory of games. http://linuxmint.com/software/?sec=c...=110&release=5 also Linux Mint is based of Ubuntu but comes with alot more codecs and for me even had a fully working flash installation.

Ultimate Edition 2.3 is THE best gaming Distro
as far as what I've used Fedora 11 would be a good choice too http://ultimateedition.info/ultimate-edition-2-3/ |
I use Ubuntu, and I like it a lot, it is my main os on my netbook, it has the array kernel, I'm actually using "Eeebuntu". But I don't have an internet connection, so the driver can't download the dependencies, and I need some header file to compile the one ones in the .bin itself. I was wondering if build-essentials (which is included on the live cd, but not installed by default) would have this. I haven't gotten around to it yet though. Also, my pc has an atheros card. Not sure what kind, because Ubuntu sees it as Atheros Unknown or something like that. Sabayon has the drivers for everything, it all works to a "T". But without an internet connection, I can't get the driver for my nVidia geForce 9500 working. So I'll try the build-essential thing, but I was just wondering if there were any distros like Sabayon that strived on hardware working out of the box.
