Berkeley DB (db-5.1.19) installation failure on Debian5

I am trying to install Berkeley DB on debian5 machine, and when i run the "make" command, it gives the error, "command not found"

apt-get install make still does not work.
the first command works "../dist/configure –prefix /usr/local/BerkeleyDB"

Can you copy and paste the output of apt-get install make and make?
