being secure on mirc?

I havent used mirc in a long time and I checked google for proxies but I have trouble finding some and I heard mostly bnc proxies work on mirc. Anyways I like to know how to be secure on mirc so nobody will be able to do a /whois on me and find my ip or other ways. Im using wine to use mirc. thanks.

I don't think it's possible. mIRC is a terrible program if you ask me, but generally IRC isn't secure in any way. For example your ip address is more than easy to detect, and there's no sense in hiding it -- use dynamic ip and don't worry. If you mean other aspects of security, there are no such things. You can get certain encryption stuff for certain clients, but then again, it's no use if everybody else don't use them too. IRC is a public thingie and meant for conversations, not bullet proof security stuff. If you want to use IRC you'll need to allow people have conversations with you (there would be no sense in it otherwise), and if you allow them to read or write stuff to you, you're visible.

With all of the Linux IRC clients available why in the world would you want to use a POS like mIRC? In Wine no less.

oh really I wasnt aware of it you mind telling me the name of one please :) and maybe where I can find a bnc I can use for irc?

Ive been checking everywhere I cant find bnc servers to use for mirc. I really wanna use irc but not if someone can do a /whois on me and find my ip. Ive used reguler proxies but most of the time I get disconnected because they detect a proxy. So I guess only thing I can use is a bnc?
