Been trying to upgrade from Fedora 8 since Fedora 9

Hi there:

I have F8 installed on my system since just after Fedora 9 became available. (I like to play it safe).

I tried upgrading to Fedora9 a few months later using the dvd that came with those Linux Bible books (by Negus). That was how I installed my F8.

The Keyboard(ps2) and mouse(USB) froze, after booting from the DVD. (The Media was checked). I decided to forget about the upgrade since I was happy with F8.

Then Fedora10 came along. Again during the upgrade, the system freeze. So what is going on? I have tried shutting down and rebooting a few times.

Anaconda gets started (always) but freeze shortly after. I have tried switching to ps2 mouse with no joy.

I have tried upgrading to Fedora 11 using an iso image I d/l and burned (on my XP system)and the same thing happens.

I cannot beleive my hardware has hit a ceiling and cannot be installed with Fedora beyond F8! but the behaviour seems to be so!

I am happy with F8 but since we are now at F11, I think time is ripe for an upgrade.

I know there are other routes (takes 5 hours, using pre-upgrade etc) but this is most comfortable for me.If anyone knows what I missed and kind enough to help me out

I would greatly appreciate it.

Below are details of my system.

i usually install fedora using the live-usb and clicking on the 'Install to Hard Drive' icon on the desktop.

I had the same problem installing Ubuntu 8.10. The problem was the disc was faulty. Verify your disc or try burning another. I've heard there are problems with disc verification on Fedora, so the latter might be better. They've got a Fedora 11 now, so why are you installing 10? (just curious - installing 10's just fine if that's what you want to do :) )

Have you tried installing in text mode? My experience has been that many of the times a system will lock-up are due to an X Server issue somewhere. If so, installing in text mode will get around that.
Also - how long are you letting Anaconda do it's hardware probe? Sometimes that can take longer than it seems it should, particularly with an older MB like you have.
One of my systems is a K9MM-V using the same chipset - except it usesa Socket AM2 processor instead of the Socket 754 the K8 uses - so I don't think it's an obsolete hardware issue.

Hope this is helpful!

Could be your integrated graphics
try using the framebuffer bootcodes
vga=791 (1024x768)
vga=788 (800x600)
vga=785 (640x480)

so, for me at boot line enter vga=791
