Basic Shell commands and Linux Administration
I'm new to linux and i was just wondering if anyone knows where i can get some info for basic Shell commands and Linux administration.
I know VERY basic commands.. CD LS WHEREIS (infact thats about it.. :D) But i dont know how to use them properly. I'm going 2 be setting up a webserver using redhat 9.0. So i just need 2 know the commands that i will need 2 know for this. (so like adding new users, installing and configuring things)... Thanks ALOT for anyhelp anyone can give me..... Check out
http://www.onlamp.com/linux/cmd/ There is a list of commonly used linux commands there. Check out the documentation at Apache's site for configuring the web server. |

Theres really no order to learn them in. Once you get the basics of moving around the filesystem(i.e. cd, mv, ls) everything else is just other commands.

As a basic user tool, "Linux in a Nutshell" is excellent. It has a good index in the back. It includes descriptive words that will send you back to the page with the command and what it does. The web page doesn't appear to have that available.
The book also has chapters on shells and editors. It does not have commands that are not core Linux functions. Samba, and Apache are not included. Also, a lot of the commands need an entire book to themselves to get full coverage, and what is in this book is very basic. |
