basic problems

Have some huge problems with drivers, for some reason I can't install the driver for my Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy LS (emu10k1?), and for my Asus Radeon 9800 XT.
And besides that, for some reason I can't get my networkcard (some RealTek) to work (so I can't connect to internet). I use Knoppix 3.2 and have an Asus P4P800 Deluxe motherboard (if that's important).
Anyone have an idea?

TIA,
Rolby

You're not telling us what you have done or what errors you have encountered, which would help troubleshooting.

Regarding the emu10k1 driver; it comes with most current distributions. Did you try loading it? Type modprobe emu10k1 as root and watch carefully for errors. If no errors occured you can unmute the channels and increase the levels (around 90 is usually sane) using alsamixer.

I have a Radeon 9600XT which works really well with the 3.9.0 drivers from ATI. What problems do you encounter? You would do well to use the search function fo this board too, since installing and configuring Radeon drivers is a common issue here.

Remember, in order to compile drivers from source you need a basic functional development system, including the source package for the kernel you're running.

Hmm

I have a SBLive! card, and it is identified as EMU10k1 - Redhat 9.

Strange that a newer RedHat does not support it anymore - have you tried sndconfig in a terminal?

First a few (pseudo-)important things:
1) I found out that Sound Blaster LS uses a different chipset, so it needs different drivers (already downloaded and put on floppy);
2) Linux can't detect the soundcard;
3) The drivers won't load due to version problems (i.e. modules.conf is more recent thatn modules.dep)
4) When it doesn't load, I get this: "Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.", think this might help.

Well, I didn't do much besides trying to load the drivers, since I didn't know what to do.
Did search for answers, but it's very annoying this way (since I can only connect to internet when running the live version) to really get it straight.
Hope this makes things clearer.

TIA,
Rolby
